Salvia

April 14th, 2008

Users of Salvia beware: although the natural hallucinogenic is currently legal in almost all states, it is likely that this will soon not be the case. A bill is currently in the Californian state Senate which would see the sale of Salvia to anyone under 18 years of age becoming illegal. Punishments include 6 months’ jail time and a hefty $1,000 fine.

It is important to distinguish between salvia leaves chewed by natives and the chemically concentrated form that can increase the drugs potency by 10 or 15 times, said Dr. Charles Grob. It is the concentrated form that causes the most effect – and is the most popular with drug users. Users may experience disorientation and maybe even an ‘outer body’ experience. They may become confused or frightened and their judgment will be severely clouded.

Opponents of Salvia claim that the government is being irresponsible by allowing the drug to stay legal.
