Progress marches past Ares Galaxy

April 13th, 2008

Almost always progress is a good thing; almost always progress has a price. In Britain’s industrial revolution the price was a human one and the Luddites did their best to sabotage, prevent and delay this progress. In the world of Ares P2P filesharing the cost is that some of us have to change software. So it is with great regret that I start to uninstall Ares Galaxy and replace it with Ares Ultra.

It is not that Ares Galaxy is poor software, nor is it that it doesn’t do the job it set out to do. It’s just that there are so many better alternative; Ares Galaxy might have got away with being slightly inferior due to its well recognized name and pedigree. This thin veil was never permanent and the general public did not take long to recognize of the shortcomings of the ‘old favorite’. Shortcomings that are met head on by the new line of Ares ‘clones’ (of course they’re not clones since they’re better): Ares Ultra, Ares Ultimate and Ares Vista.

Like the Luddites, there is always some bar to progress. In this case it is the developers of software like Ares Gold and Ares Destiny which try to win favor purely on the Ares name. This software is a step backwards by any standard and, further, is packaged with adware. Ares Galaxy is the way to go!
