Ares Lite was the first piece of file sharing software that I ever picked up. It was also the best for me at the time, as it was designed to hog less of my computer’s resources. My computer has come a long way in the six years since Ares Lite’s first release and the benefits of a smaller program have slowly become more and more insignificant. The insignificance really hit home when I saw a friend using Ares Ultimate on his computer. I decided it was time for an upgrade.
The reason so many people took to Ares Lite so quickly in those early days was that it was being billed as the only version of Ares that wasn’t bundled with adware or malware of some kind. This wasn’t the case at all and then, as now, there were plenty of versions of Ares that are both clean and very good at what they do.
Versions of Ares like Ares Ultra, Ares Ultimate and Ares Vista are shining examples of what developers can make without bundling in nasty pieces of leech-ware. Ares Destiny (bundled with Dealio) is reminiscent of the bad old days. I chose Ares Galaxy in the end and I’m incredibly pleased; much more fully functioned that the old Ares Lite, this is an application for the Internet generation.
