Music downloads are catching on! What an understatement. They are positively on fire. The number of MP3 downloads from legitimate license paying sites is set to grow at a rate of about 23% a year over the next five years. While this seems impressive consider this: a survey by Forrester Research Inc. tells us that by 2012, music downloads will surpass CD sales. Wow.

What does this mean for the industry? It means that businesses, organizations and umbrella groups need to stop looking back and wondering what went wrong and start moving with the times. Part of the reason the RIAA and similar groups feel the need to go on a trigger-happy sue parade aimed at anyone and anything is that they feel threatened. These people need to recognize that the future starts now. Music downloads are hot property and anyone wishing to cash in on music of any description needs to get moving.

The two major players in this space is Admob and Ad infuse. The players are hoping to be the Google in this domain and as far as the traffic goes, its surprisingly US and India the top contenders. User in India have a constant flux of mobile advertisement and the the privacy advocates have not caught on to the hysteria. The mindset is that you like it or not we have continuously gotten ourselves so engulfed and dependent on these gadgets and people are learning to live with the flip side of technology, not necessarily is what these players are arguing. A targeted mobile advertisement can be a useful thing for consumers. More increasingly consumers are appreciating these efforts and that is the good news for these companies that are hoping to materialize in this mobile world. Mobile devices are increasingly getting smarter and smarter with more computation added it could be doing some amazing things for us, and Admob is looking to catch that train and they are well within the schedule I would argue.
